In Experience

It’s finally here—the season of eating in the sun. A picnic at the park, a vineyard, or even your front or back yard is a statement that spring is present. Making the most of this moment is all in the prep and planning. Thankfully, we have compiled a fool-proof list of your needed items and suggestions to ensure a memorable outing with yourself, your girlfriend, or loved ones.

First things first, you’ll need a place to sit and set up. We recommend a blanket or quilt that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. If you don’t have one at the ready, there are sports or beach blankets available that have a waterproof side to make cleaning up that much easier.

This next one is a given: a picnic basket. You will need something to carry all the goodies, but of course, the classic and iconic picnic basket is the best way to go. If you don’t want the hassle of remembering plates, drinkware, and cutlery, Williams Sonoma has some of the most beautiful baskets that include these necessities. They are worth the investment if picnics or outdoor eatings are a regular occurrence.

Any picnic is incomplete without snacks and sips. Finger foods, easy snacks, and infused water or even wine will make your picnic experience elegant and complete. You will not need to pack a full meal, but just enough food and drink to satisfy you and your company for a few hours.

A frequently forgotten item when it comes to spring and summer outings is Sunglasses or a stylish hat to keep your eyes on the moments that matter, not squinting from the sunshine. Other items not to forget when spending a few hours in the elements are bug spray and sunscreen. They are easy to forget when preparing everything else to take and pack, but be sure to protect your skin from the UV rays and pesky bugs.

Other items to bring to elevate your picnic experience even further include a portable mini speaker to enjoy some relaxing tunes or even an audio book while enjoying the sun. If you wish for a quieter outdoor dining experience, think of bringing a book to enjoy, especially if you’re doing a solo self-care picnic. If friends or family are joining, think of bringing a camera or at least fully charged phone to capture the memories in the making.
